The Dirt on America’s Disease “Epicdemic” – Where Did All The Nutrients Go?

When your grandparents ate an orange…

They got a huge dose of Vitamin C.

Today?

You’d have to eat EIGHT (yes 8) whole oranges to get the
SAME
dose of Vitamin C!

What the heck happened?

That juicy orange you buy at the store sure LOOKS delicious, right?

Yeah, well… there’s nothing in it anymore.

The store-bought fruit and vegetables you eat are mostly empty… Devoid of nutrients.

(yes, even the ones you pay double for at Whole Foods my darlings)

And I’m not the only lunatic talking about this…

Here’s an article from Scientific American diving into the stats.

So…

WHY is this a problem?

HOW did we let this happen?

Allow me to explain…

I’m amazed by just how little the average Modernized Humanoid Cyborg (MHC) understands about Earth and it’s connection to their primitive human body.

Sooo, to explain what I consider common sense, I’ll use simple diagrams so any goldfish-attention-spanned millennial can understand in 8 seconds or less.

But first, let’s cover the pre-reqs, shall we?

“C’mon James, Who Needs Nutrients Anyway?”

Many Americans seem to think if they eat enough cheetos to fill their hungry belly, they might get lucky and live to 100 (unless they get hit by a bus while texting).

Because remember: as modern humans whose technology solves everything for them, the sole purpose of eating is to satisfy hunger.

After all, your body is just like a car that goes vroom vroom! The engine just needs fuel when the tank runs empty.

And, that is why The Colonel in all his glory bestowed $5 Fill Ups upon us!

Sorry folks, it doesn’t work that way…

Here’s how it does work:

Your cells require a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats to replicate properly.

Your DNA needs these vital building blocks to replicate, rebuild, and repair itself. If the DNA becomes weak and breaks (from lack of nutrients or exposure to a toxic pesticide) it produces mutant cells.

DNA mutations cause cancer and other diseases.

(for more nerdy details, checkout this dense scientific article.)

It’s simple… as the nutrients in soil and food disappear, our levels of disease skyrocket.

This chart shows the correlation between available nutrients in soil/food and increase of diseases caused by mineral deficiency.

Newsflash: 2,500 Americans are dying of cancer PER DAY.

That’s almost the number of people who were killed on 9/11… except they’re dying every single damn day people!

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that as we give our bodies LESS of what they’ve needed over the last several eons, we F ourselves up.

But, as Dr. Linus Pauling (two-time Nobel Prize winner) said…

“Nearly all disease can be traced to a nutritional deficiency.”

The cause of our health problems is stupidly simple – and yet the “we’re finding a cure for cancer” foundations trick you into donating your hard earned money to their futile research.

(NOTE: Yes, cancer is serious and I have personally been impacted by the disease… but our way of approaching “a cure” is utterly ridiculous, and from what I gather, shockingly corrupt. I recommend diving into Dr. Pauling’s research)

The cure to our cancer epidemic is to eat nutrient-dense foods without carcinogenic pesticides.

Boom. Solved. Please send the Nobel Prize for Obviousness to the address listed below. We can skip the award ceremony. Thanks.

Now, you might be wondering WHERE did all the nutrients go?

How do we get those nutrients BACK into our soil and into our food?

Where’d All Them Nutrients Go Anyway??

Feast your eyes on this chart from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The death of soil is a well known fact, heavily researched and documented by the USDA since the 1930s as evidenced by this 1936 article published by the US Senate.

Well looky there… minerals in soil are disappearing.

But where are they going?

Again, the answer is embarrassingly simple:

Step 1: Farmers grow crops.

Step 2: Crops are shipped to the city (right after they’re picked early and sprayed with argon gas to ripen).

Step 3: City slickers spend bookoo bucks on these crops and eat them.

Step 4: City slickers digest and excrete the crops in the form of poop.

Step 5: The poop floats away to a waste treatment plant via modern day plumbing

Step 6a: The poop water is then blasted with chemicals, the water is separated out, and the poop sludge gets dumped into a landfill.

Step 6b: The poop water is flushed into a river, lake, or ocean.

Step 7: The undigested minerals and nutrients NEVER make it back to the farm where they originated.

This is a classic example of the broken cycles of the modern world that destroy our planet and our health.

We forget that Earth is a living, breathing organism that regenerates itself and that WE play a critical role in keeping Earth’s natural cycles intact.

PROBLEM: All that poop FULL of undigested minerals and nutrients is NOT making it back to the farm where the food originally came from.

The “Simple as Sh*t in a Bucket” Solution

For some reason, our advanced technological society just couldn’t figure out how to not drink the SAME water we poop in…

Yes, the water you crap in gets “treated” with loads of chemicals and then pumped back to your faucet for you to drink and bathe in.

Yum!

Here’s what we should be doing instead:

Step 1: Do your biz in a 5 gallon bucket and cover your dung with wood shavings.

Remarkably, this smells 10x less bad than when you air drop human excrement into a giant bowl of water. Go figure.

If you wanna get fancy, you can add dried lavender flowers and activated charcoal to the wood shavings mix to eliminate the smell even more.

Step 2: Toss it in a pile outside and let it compost for 2~ years (killing all the scary pathogens that supposedly live in it).

Step 3: Use it to grow amazing vegetables in your garden.

Step 4: Eat the vegetables and enjoy vibrant health without cancer or fatal, life-limiting disease.

Again, see below for my address to send the Nobel Prize for Obviousness. Thanks.

For more detail, you can buy a copy of The Humanure Handbook by Joseph C. Jenkins which has sold 60,000+ copies despite the fact that every book publisher on Earth refused to publish it because the topic is “gross”.

Sigh… But hey, what can you expect from squeamish Modernized Humanoid Cyborgs who think cheese comes from plants and girls don’t poop?

If you’re not as hardcore as most people reading this blog post who have already stopped reading and are feverishly searching their garage for a spare 5 gallon bucket…

Don’t worry.

You’ll eventually warm up to the idea…

Just wanted to plant the seed in your soil.

Thoughts on this rant?
I’d love to read your comments below and continue the discussion.

Keep growing,

  1. Hi James,

    Great Rant! 🙂

Another missing link in getting minerals back in the soil is that as little as 50 years ago it was common practice for farmers/ growers to let pigs “roto-till” their left-over plant material and vegetables while at the same time excreting in the growing area. Cows would also do this to a lesser extent as well.

  2. Hi James,
Thank you for your rant!! My sentiments exactly! I practiced all this for a while about a year ago, living alone on 2nd floor, gardening on the roof, making my own soil, it worked for a while. But it caused the roof to leak in the hall below, so I had to stop.

    1. You’re welcome Frances!

Ah yes… rooftop gardens are awesome but they can cause leaking and structural issues if you’re not careful. I’m working on a rooftop garden for a client in Egypt and we’re doing a hydroponic system with NFT trays (very light weight and totally contained) 🙂 Keep growing!

  3. Thanks for the rant. I’m a girl and yes, I do poop, lol. Oh, and I also bait my own fish hooks and taught my city slicker husband how to fish. My dad, thought us girls should know some survival skills. Which, taught us a lot on respecting what nature has to give us, whether wild game or a nice juicy tomato out of the garden on a warm sunny day. We grew up around guns and didn’t shoot anybody. We put some of the neighbor’s cow poop on our garden and lived through it. Well, the neighbors put in on, just backed the shit spreader up and let it fly. Happy gardening.

  4. I buy nothing but nonGMO and I don’t even trust that. You have to grow your own. People have to learn to read the f’n labels. ie sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, modified starch….it’s all f’n poison…now, cooking oil, do your home work. coconut is about the best. stay away from carbs. Use fat insted

  5. Hey James! I really liked what you wrote. Do you mind if I write a paper about it for my homeschool? I think it’s an important issue to discuss.

I would like to ask if you would also recommend aquaponics for very very small gardens. I don’t think my mom would like the idea of placing dung in a flower pot. It would be silly. We have a very limited space for composting.

How about dog manure? Will that also give the same results?

Thanks. Hope you see my questions.

    1. Hey Cysha,

Glad you liked it, YES please do!

I don’t recommend aquaponics for small implementations (these days I actually only recommend it for farm scale, there’s something else I recommend for homescale growing).

Very very small though I’d recommend container gardening and soon I’ll be releasing info showing the most effective way to do it.

You can absolutely compost dog waste and the best way to do that is with a simple worm farm. You can still make good soil with dog manure.

    2. This is a general comment not to this individual necessary I just wanted to get this idea out there. In the city you can watch Farmers line up to get the sewage sludge is going into the food but think of this sore all the chemicals that got flushed down your drain. Let that sink in when you clean your toilet bowl with Clorox after you pooped that also went down your drain and then there’s the chemicals at the processing plant anything they put in there is in it. Then they’re supposed to disc that under for a year I said notice this Fella’s talking about composting it for 2 years composting it heroic the compost process makes heat to kill the pathogens I’m not sure just just getting it under into the Earth and leaving its it does quite the same thing. No most homesteads were food is being grown organically using human error first of all they are people that don’t use a bunch of chemicals second of all that waste water goes somewhere else not necessarily into their human error. Certainly factory farming which is what I’m studying right now factory farming putting tons of pesticide and insecticide chemical fertilizer into plants really isn’t nourishing and the process of factory farming doesn’t let the ground rest doesn’t put nutrients back into the soil like the old-fashioned Farm did when you would plant your winter weed and then just that under in the spring and that’s really the problem. All crops need nourishment but factory farming is using inorganic substances to bring that about which really doesn’t do the same thing and so they say they must do this to feed a hungry world but it is not nursing a hungry world it is not making healthy people whose bodies produce healthy cells. Even if you live in an apartment you would be amazed with little space how much of your own food you can grow we began doing this while we were still in the city growing things on our patio growing things indoors whatever it took and now we have a homestead that is really a wrecked piece of land that were trying to refurbish and remediate and bring back to health. Grow as much of your own food as you can or buy organic factory farming is the problem and more problem than you can imagine there’s just not even room to go into it here

  6. James did anybody tell you that “you’re full of SHIT”
I just love it. Or maybe you are just too cynical . (LOL). Don’t worry buddy I feel the same way. I have been composting for years. I use anything I can find. No GMO seeds for me. I get all of my stuff from Baker Creek, which in nonhybrid. Now I am looking for solutions for pest control and weed control. I enjoy your blogs and news letters

    1. Thanks John! Yes, I am full of shit. Hot, steaming, soon to be the best black gold fertilizer any garden’s ever seen 😉

I’ve accepted the fact that most people regard me as the weirdest MF person they’ve ever met. Took me about 30 years to realize I’m Encino man who woke up in a crazy modern world.

      Keep growing!!

  7. Hey all of you. Get out of the northern hemisphere and most food issues are gone. I moved from the upper Midwest of the US to Ecuador and bought a farm that has always been organic. With groundwater being polluted, the air is polluted the neighbor puts chemicals on his yard and garden you can’t win. Walk away and save your life. Move to South America is the best advice you will get from this page

    1. Hey Ed,

      Thanks for your comment here.

I agree 100% with you for people who are free to move about the world freely. The levels of toxins in North America are absurd. I spent a lot of time in Brazil and almost ended up there. There are some permaculture projects down there where I volunteer and everything is abundant and pristine.

However, I want to address that many people do not have the option of leaving the country. Perhaps a disease, disability, or non-intact family could prevent people from moving. It does for me.

I have a non-intact family. My son is 3 years old and I can’t leave him behind, nor can I take him with me. If it weren’t for him I would be in Brazil, no question about it.

For the rest of us, we have to be militant about our health to eliminate pesticide exposure and diligently cleanse the body as well. Yes, much easier to do in South America. Here it’s a battle and we have to fight it.

  8. Hi everyone,
I resonate with all you said James, and for that reason I am so grateful that I got in on your class.
I`m a bit slow getting started but am beginning to enjoy the produce.
I am having a problem with my account. Would you check to see if it can be fixed? I would like to be able to order. Thank you

      1. I’m sure you heard of John Stamos the Mushroom expert.
I would like to start a community that could help rase fund for re inoculations of the world so we don’t end up with it becoming a desert.
If you are interested in partnership within this community please contact me via email.
        Thanks
        Braden

        1. Hey Braden,

          Awesome!
(Maybe you mean Paul Stamets? If so, I had the pleasure of finally meeting him at Envison Festival this year. I’ll admit I was sorta star struck).

Will connect with you, Braden, the project sounds incredible. Thank you and keep growing!

          James~

  9. Hi James,
I was watching a video about current news and the cops misdoings and riots when your video came up so I watched the whole thing. Very interesting and I was compelled to order your offering by clicking the button below the video which repeatedly asked to take advantage of your offer however, there is no button to click. So how can I get the “Little green Monsters” working in my yard and learn how to make a productive healthy garden?

    1. Hey Dave,

Crazy times and so sad to see humanity burning in a fire fueled by humanity.

Sorry the link didn’t work that is sometimes a glitch with different browsers we’re working to correct. If you reach out to my support crew they’ll get you set up. Excited for you to join our (peaceful) food revolution. Keep growing!

  10. So am I the only one reading this in 2020!? I feel my MHC computer failed and I’m late to the party. Enjoyed the read as always. Have a great day and may you ever shit fields of green!

    1. Hey Darrell, thanks for the comment and the laugh!
Shitting fields of green all. day. long 😀

  11. Hi James,
Loved your rant. I have similar ones regularly.

We compost our humanure using black soldier flies…whose larvae get fed to the chickens and fish. What’s left is such gorgeous soil that when I sent it to my local extension office for analysis I got back a note that read ‘Best soil we’ve ever seen! Whatever you are doing keep doing it!” We still let it compost for a year just in case. We feed our cat and dog excrement to the earthworms and only use it on trees and shrubs! Also, just in case.

I also have focused on re- mineralizing my soil (read The Intelligent Gardenear by Steve Solomon) so that once the loop is completely closed all of our compost really will be enough to keep our soil healthy!

A great bonus of these two actions is that the 1st year I had huge problems trying to grow food…pests, fungus, water issues and 3 years later I’m seeing a decline in all of the above! I am looking forward to a continued decline in problems and increases in produce!

I wish all of you the best in your growing endeavors.

    1. Hey Hope, ahh soooo awesome to hear this.

Love this – “Best soil we’ve ever seen! Whatever you are doing keep doing it!”

THe BSF larve are incredible, aren’t they? I’ve experimented with them for years and man that black goo that comes out is potent stuff! Crazy growth off it.

Thank you so much for taking a moment to leave your comment and inspiration.

      Keep growing!

      James~

  12. Great blog post there James! I really like how you give links to articles and references you cited in order for people to do their own educated research and make a choice on what they CHOOSE to believe based on the information they have gathered. Most people are indoctrinated and only believe “credible sources” media or government sites that can lead you very far away from the real truth. Thanks for educating others and for standing behind a cause that most of us are blind towards and a lot of us just do not want to see the sad reality that is right in front of us.

    1. Jose, man welcome to the tribe, couldn’t have said it better myself.
Yes, these days I am astounded by how few people literally will not spend 90 seconds of research on Google (or any other less censorship ridden search engine) and do their OWN investigation. Blows my mind. Don’t even get me started on “The Rona” situation. OMG. Anyway, great to have you with us, Jose. Keep growing, and keep helping people see the truth.

  13. For years I’ve been saying to myself, what in the world has happened to our food. It used to taste so good to grab a tomato out of the garden & just bite into it & let the juices run. I was raised in tomato sandwiches. My husband & I plant a garden every stinkin year & the leaves grow but nothing produces. One year we had 50 tomato plants & got about 15 tomatoes. It’s heart breaking. We try so hard & put $200.00 to $300.00 into our garden & her about $20.00 back in food. Just Sayin’ & I’ve always said since I’ve lost 9 siblings that our deaths & diseases are because of the way our food is processed. Thanks Carolyn

  14. James, I became aware of this depletion in 1999. An Engineer coworker advised me that she took Magnesium to increase her calcium absorption. I went to the store she got her’s from and found a book, The Nutraceutical Revolution, by Richard Firshein, D.O. It doesn’t stop at produce. Our meat sources are also lacking nutritional content. Since that time I have purchased a home and I grow all kinds of herbs like holy basil, Thai basil, sweet basil, Malabar vine spinach, Aloe, dragon fruit, oranges, papaya, okra, 6 different greens, turmeric, taro, and more! I compost anything that grows out of my dirt or has grown that has been excess in cooking to enrich the soil. I am currently on a campaign of giving away Holy Basil/Tutsi, starts as it is the number one immune building plant on 3 of the lists I have found and number 2 on the fourth list. It may not be a lot but as I harvest to eat or make tea I always propagate a couple cuttings. Hopefully more people will get on board of natural ways of staying healthy and self sufficient. I have collected over 20 natural healing texts since 1999 and it is amazing what you can learn to care for at home naturally.

    1. Hey Beverly, thank you for commenting! Wow, I’d love to know what those 20 texts are… And also where you live, because those all sounds like awesome sub-tropical crops I’d love to be growing here (greenhouse required for me).

    2. Hi Beverly De View, it is truly amazing what we can do in order to do things differently that they are now. Sounds like you are in some blessed places like Hawaii or similar. 🙂 Is it there any way you can post maybe or email the titles of those 20 health texts?
I live in Canada where amount of sunny days went from 280 per year to 88-90 on average and hope that James’s technics can help me to grow food, but with lack of sunlight here also try to collect additional health texts, advices and supplements.

  15. Good points for sure. We could
Probably solve more than one problem keeping out own feces. There is a millorganite fertilizer thats made from human poop. While I ran a nursery in the early 80’s I learned it was acceptable to have a 2% hazardouse waste added to these fertilizers. Wow how great is that! I guess they thought it was a “safe” amount! Or a homeopathic treatment! Lol Unreal. Being a person that took the poison handling test. These safe amounts are a line of shit! Toxic shit! Anything that says warning, caution, hazardous or poison are accumulated in the body. It Causes irrational behavior. It accumulates. No bitching without a solution; so we really need to encourage all peoples to grow things. Its a shame the states do not plant food producing trees and bushes on state and local lands and parks. That’d be giving to much away or they may all draw flys since no one knows how to prune or pick a tree? What? Why not? And what happened to the 21st Century kitchen that was supposed to have grow racks with lights in every kitchen. Fed with trace minerals and sustaining fertilizers. Oh that would cut in on all the sick and dying. That would not be a welcome solution since the insurance companies invested in the fast food businesses not nutrition. Most fast food fries the food in canola oil; a plant bugs wont even eat. After heated its like motor oil in the body. People aren’t paying attention. I can mix real lemon juice with some sugar and get pure lemon aid real fast. But now days to many think fast is rip open a package and take the same time to mix some up with a dose of who knows what in it. And get ya a dose of yellow 40 or 5&6! Yum. It’s a mess! Rant? I try and not without solutions. But seems no one cares. You have no idea how much I know no one cares about. What if you could stop a second degree burn or worse like a radiator blowing up on someone? And they didn’t blister. No blister! Went to work next day. People die if their burnt over 1/3 their body! Guess what the burn foundations dont care a damn bit! Guess what roundup been thrown outta europe we spray that shit all over the place and have roundup ready soybeans plastered all over the place and it runs in the damn water. Hey lets have a bitch fest! But not unless we can get some solutions. Otherwise I will be Doing what I can to survive and feel good alone. And its a big blame everyone else except the ones that arranged this shit show. Sure we have had a pretty amazing blessed time here in my life. But I see this show is about to close the curtain. And the doors. The death rates keep rising and so do the court costs and the dr bills and the useless prescriptions. And a bigger line of horse shit everyday! It’s big business making people sick. Gotta protect yourselves! Sad everyone now needs probiotics even the damn dogs. FDA is worthless or worse than worthless. We have very little good representation. What the hell are they doing? Allowing it. Why? Look at the results. Thats why. Lets not be ignorant to the fact. Be stupid and die is their moto. What a joke! The Gov cares about us? Yeah and I’m going-to hell with ice and sell Ice water. Im stunned Trump Managed to sent people money- Totally stunned. I’ll be damned if he isn’t trying. I guess people who owed child support don’t deserve to eat or live they got nothing. Except further behind and perhaps locked up. And all those turds you speak of, has a ton of pharmaceuticals in them too. We need an organization and get us some fed funding and fix this atrocity. Lets write a business plan. Im sick of it.

    1. Hey Lisa, we could talk for a long time about so many things. Thank you for your comment here.

  16. Hello James,

I like your rant…it’s spot on. The majority of farmers (specifically farming corporations) do not put nutrients back into the soil their food is grown in. Real farmers replenish their soil regularly as they know this is necessary to grow nutrient dense foods.

My father had a great organic garden on his property with upraised beds we grew vegetables in every year here in Minnesota, until he passed on years ago. We worked in a combination of aged horse manure, black dirt, minerals from rock dust, and worm husks into the soil every spring prior to planting. This infusion of elements back into the earth we were farming caused the food we harvested to be amazingly healthy.

More than ever, people need to learn how to grow their own food. Even if they’re not able to do so due to environmental circumstances, they should still know how it’s done. This knowledge may be very valuable to future survival down the road.

    1. Robert, thank you so much for your comment.
It has me envisioning such a rich, lush garden that grew such amazing life-giving crops.
Funny how simple it is, really… it came out of the garden… it passes through you (and the animals) and it goes back. Simple. Perfect.
Thank you again, and keep growing.

(slight correction, it WILL be valuable in the future. It will be THE currency of the future. Could take 10 years, 50 years, or 200 years, I can’t say… But it will be 😉

  17. Wow this is some good shit! I can’t believe how awake I’ve become sitting on the shitter reading this blog. 4:30 am and counting. Just so ya know I’m a living miracle from changing my eating habits 12 years ago. I eat as little as much organic food as I can possibly do in my salad every day. Drink warm water in the morning w honey and lemon and acv. No breakfast for me except organic coffee after. Dinner is sometimes a bit risky around my house since my wife hasn’t completely jumped on board because of risking of the children. Now that’s a different story since it makes no since. isn’t what we’re here for. The children. All the crap that’s indoctrinating them in school equals dad is a crazy heath freak till they grow up and realize I knew something as they sneaked out to eat whatever they could at friends houses and they’re parents laughing the whole time making me out to be as such. Anyway back to the topic. I tried hydroponics and found my basement to be a bad place to start because of moisture issues growing algae or whatever to clog the spray ports. Also have grown gardens here for years only to be dissatisfied as of late to the point of practically giving up. It’s nice to see I’m not the alone in my quest for a better way. My front yard is a leach bed so I’m thinking of switching the location to try and recoup my poop so to speak. My neighbor farmer sprays every year and has no choice but to keep spraying only to be disappointed with rust Infused harvest. Thanks for the inspiring blog. Can’t believe I’m shitting a gold mine.

    1. Hahaha hey Joe, you gave me a good laugh today, thanks so much for your comment here.
YES you are a goldmine of shit, my friend! We all are.
Keep up your health-nut habits, eventually the wife and kids will come around once they see your results…
Maybe get a blood test and compare to the wife’s? Or have your telomures tested to tell you your estimated actual biological age (it’s a bit pricey though).

Or, what literally happened with someone I know… you’ll outlive them all 🙁 and at least others will take notice.
Keep being the change, and keep growing.

    2. Haha thank you for your spirited comment, Joe! Keep that gold mine cranking! Hey, can I invest? 😀

  18. James,
Thank you for being such a strong advocate for a healthy Earth and trying to help people become more responsible about their food. Ever since I read my first ‘Mother Earth News’ magazine in the 80’s, I’ve been a big proponent of organic living for the sake of my children.
Keep it up. You are a small voice in a loud world.

    1. Thank you Roselane!
I’ll keep reaching as many as I can. Your comment makes my day. Keep being awesome, and keep growing.

  19. Great article – makes total sense, and i’ve done the Humanure in a bucket at my friend’s place for a year + when I lived there.

Interested to hear your take about the level of drugs / toxins that pass through pretty much every human…
I just read an article that talked about that, and how de-regulations ( of bio-matter (e.g. somewhat but not really filtered sludge are being put back on fields (which scientists unanimously were against doing when it started in 1993).

Thanks! keep up the good work!

    1. Yes, this is a huge issue, Mathias.
The solution is to eat more nutrient dense foods, exercise, and get sunlight. Simple.
Then the poo that goes back to grow said nutrient-dense foods has less or no toxins because nobody needs the pharma drugs.
We will get there, one way or another. 🙂

  20. The correlation you don’t show in a graph is the rise in pesticides & herbicides that mirror the decline in nutrients & the rise in cancer. It all works together because it’s a biosphere. As those poisons destroy the biosphere, there are less nutrients. There are some people who think that the abundance of glyphosate in the soil, water, & air is actually the cause of climate change.

    1. Hey Toni, yep. You’re so right. And I bet the correlation would be even more dramatic than the nutrients graph…

What blows me away is the couple who were awarded $2 billion (that’s billion with a B) by Monsanto because a court proved Round Up caused their lymphoma… and you can still buy Roundup at Home Depot.

      What. The. Actual. Fuck.

This world is so very strange to me.

      Keep growing, Toni.

      James~

  21. I’m obviously traveling on the slow boat. The county here sells “soil” that is generated at the waste water treatment plant. Never used it on a garden because the medications some people take – don’t want that in my chili. But……we have discussed insinolets and composting toilets. What do you think of them as sources for minerals? The reason I ask, I’d NEVER get away with asking Mom to poop in a bucket. EVER.

    1. You’d be surprised. My mom (Dr. Mom) used to poke fun at me for saving my pee for the garden. Now SHE saves at least 1 quart per day for her garden haha.

  22. Hi James,
    Thanks for the rant.
I am a girl from the mid west, currently living in Southern California. I agree with what your saying and have always had a garden of sorts. My brother and I used to go to the LA zoo and pick up zoo waist for our gardens, but because of transportation and time constraints we haven’t been able to do it. So I’m limited to chicken manure from Home Depot.
Though I do have some converts, a lot of my friends don’t understand why I’m so adamant about growing my own food. Thanks for reminding me why I do it.

    1. You’re welcome! Zoo Poo sounds great, I’ve never used it but I bet it’s got a killer nitrogen content!
Keep leading by example… oh and cook them dinner, that usually gets people inspired to grow their own 🙂

  23. I’m watching your ads from youtube while surfing the internet about how to make a handheld emp since more and more people expose to hidden camera everywhere like cheap hotel and motel. Anyway this year I will graduate and i think I wont spend more years live in a city despite having the idea to start business about providing fresh vegetable for home around me with aquaponic system (there’s a demand bcuz people tired of going to wet market) but I really need some peace time to relief my nerve after all this year struggling to survive the stress. And I really digging the homegrown food technic from aquaponic, raised bed, and toxic farm (spray the plant with pesticide). So I will spend the rest of this year to gather information about environment-safe farm since my family have some land and still using pesticide for their product. Is there any social I could follow you?

  24. This really is the god-awful fu…in sh…TRUTH. I knew this about the depletion of the earth about 20 years ago. Down on my luck now. Trying to climb back out of this hole. I will take all your advice to heart. I just now ordered that health book mentioned earlier, The Nutraceutical Revolution by Dr. Richard Firshien D.O., from Thriftbooks. When get more money, I will order the other two, also. Thank you again.

  25. James, I heard of a neighboring county that sprays all their human waste on a field and then grows crops on it. This sounds like a perfect solution. Do you know much about this practice and is it truly as good of a solution as it sounds?

    1. Hey Mary, it’s a good solution, however rather than just dump on a field, I’d advocate composting, mixing in biochar, letting it sit, and letting nature work with it a bit first. This is an important step to let carbon bind up toxins. So, I think it’s a step in the right direction, but they’re missing a piece.

  26. Recycling our eaten food is common sense,my mom said it was normal practice when she grew up in rural Europe where villagers had no choice but to grow their own food.So called store bought food is the real crap period!
am busy at home turning lawns into gardens, lots of work(free honest exercise) & people should know that there are two kinds of muscles.Muscles from working out routines may make you look great ,tho are useless for much else, those muscles from doing honest hard work are hands down the best & most useful.
    That’s my rant….

    1. A very much welcome and enjoyed rant! Thanks for sharing here, Steve. Great to have you with us.

  27. Have a radically different thought on roundup.Had a relative George Grantier ,a chemical engineer Who worked for Monsanto & was on the team that developed it.Also myself built a serious farm of 1,000 head of cattle, pig operation, bee keeping ect.We the human species are the environments biggest plague period. We can’t feed ourselves without nasty chemicals now. Many common chemicals used by farmers have afterlives that last 50 years & more,so think about all of this when u r bashing one particular chemical like roundup.Monsanto sure has it’s nasty side, yet the team that developed it was ecstatic because it’s a systemic product that targets broad leafed weeds & turns into an inert substance once it hits the dirt with no afterlife. The problem with roundup is that farmers found that it is a good desiccant, that when sprayed on mature crops kills the plants dead & dried to make harvesting quick & easy,so the farmers abuse this product by spraying it on ripe grain for easy harvesting. Come fall with dampness & general moisture conditions, grain cannot be harvested when it’s damp or what we call “tough”,so harvesting losses can bankrupt the farmers who are weather reliant to make a living.
So yes the coorperate takeover & control of farms is horrid along with gmo ect is our sick reality that feeds us & likely no way around this for the human masses but growing our own food.Growing your own food isn’t a little plot/garden for summer eating,it’s a tremendous amount of physical work & planning that most are incapable of,this is the human reality on the planet we are raping & killing methinks. If any of this offends you tough,it’s the reality that I see & have learned

    1. No offense taken, Steve.
I’m personally of the opinion that if I haven’t offended someone by noon, I’m doing something wrong LOL.
Interesting story here, glad you shared.
And yes you are right there IS no other way than to grow it ourselves on land we work daily.
We have built a society that makes this impossible. We blocked out all the sunlight, have no place to put our shit/pee so the Earth can properly recycle it. The list goes on. But that’s an entirely separate blog post.

  28. Indeed what we eat defines how our health will be thanks very much as you professed about what will happen in the future which is now when the Corona pandemic has strike the world and there is need for people to eat well to bring the immune system in position

    1. Couldn’t agree more. Funny how there’s not a single mention of increasing immunity in the news, eh?

  29. I am now on my nineties and this summer have been putting all my urine ( not just my night pot ) out in the garden about a gallon of it daily . Here in Scotland the manure and urine of overwintered cattle are still a valued part of rural economy .
Surely human sewage could be recycled at a HUGE profit ?

    1. It absolutely could and SHOULD be! If processed safely and possibly with some additional amendments added it could be a very high $ item.

  30. I grew up in Russia where we spent summers on dacha – a plot of land you cultivated, with simple houses and toilets outdoors with a bucket, where you’d toss your weeds from the garden into that bucket to cover your poop and then of course after it overwintered in a heap you put it back in the soil and grew vegetables and fruits you not only ate but preserved by pickling etc (sauerkraut of course, too). It was natural for me years of urban life later when I found myself with a backyard in Canada to start with fertilising the soil – and I actually call my kids pets, guinea pigs, my fellow gardeners, because they just eat grass and poop and I use that with their wood shavings used for bedding… We are all connected, and so sad to see how we are withholding this love from the land by you know, withholding our crap. Maybe I should look into this business…

    1. Hey Maria, very cool. Thank you for sharing your story and experience here. Yes, witholding our crap from the land is one of the many forms of engineered disconnection.

  31. I’ve changed my lifestyle to improve my health. I grow about two thirds of what I eat. I am in the process of changing from ornamental plants to food production. The World Record for the longest any human has ever lived is over 900 years! The oldest human alive today is under 120. Way back then, they did 2 things that most people don’t do today. First, they grew their own food, so that when they wanted food, they would pick it and eat it. This gives one a load of enzymes! And if you buy something from a grocery store, there are NO enzymes in it, as once something is picked, the enzymes start to decay. And everything in a modern grocery store has been picked a month or two ago, so has ZERO enzymes. As proof, what color is a ripe lime, and a ripe bing cherry? What color are these in a store? Limes are green, and bing cherry is red. Which means they are NOT ripe. A ripe lime is yellow, and a ripe bing cherry is black. But if they waited until the food was ripe to pick it, by the time it got to the store, it would be either mush or moldy. The longer food is on the vine, the sweeter it gets! The second thing people did way back in history, is they fasted. The did this for 2 reasons. They grew their own food, and when you do that, you run out, so are forced to fast, probably in winter. They also fasted for spiritual reasons. The top 3 religions in the world ONLY agree on ONE thing! That is the human body NEEDS to fast! I do 2 forms of fasting. I do intermittent fasting, where I only eat ONE meal a day (though it is about 3 to 5 pounds of food), and once a month I do a 4 day fast, where I don’t eat ANYTHING for 4 days. What’s crazy about this is, at the end of 4 days without eating ANYTHING, I am less hungry than ANY day I ate 3 meals! Hunger is BS! What I’ve learned by fasting is when you think you are hungry, you aren’t! You are 1 of 2 things. You are either thirsty, or you are bored! So when I feel hungry, I drink some iced tea (unsweetened, home made), and then go do something, which is usually going to my backyard and gardening. And 6 to 10 hours later I come back inside and can’t be bothered with food, proving I wasn’t hungry to begin with. And since I adopted this lifestyle, I have had 2 major changes to my health. First I’ve had a long history of skin cancer, as I spend a LOT of time outside. So much so that I had to see a dermatologist 4 times a year, and every time I went I got freeze sprayed to kill off precancerous skin cells. After a year of my improved (cheaper, and spend much less time on food) lifestyle, the dermatologist, who had not freeze sprayed me for a year, reduced my visitation schedule back to the normal once a year, as I had had NO skin cancer for the year! Also back in 2001, I had a major accident, shattering my pelvis, which gave me permanent nerve damage, which gave me pain for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 19 years! And EVERY time I did a 4 day fast, my pain level went down. After a year, my pain was GONE! The human body can HEAL itself, but you need ENZYMES, and FASTING! And it is FREE, and gives you MORE time to do something else! As you spend much less money on food, and you don’t cook 3 times a day, just once a day, and 4 days a month you don’t cook at all. My daily food cost is probably about $2- $3, and I’m eating 3 to 5 pounds of food! I also don’t eat bread (it has roundup in it), don’t eat sugar (it’s toxic to the human body), I don’t buy things that have labels on them as one should NOT eat chemicals! So adopt my lifestyle, and eliminate the # 1 killer in the country (Cancer)!!! I believe I am actually aging in reverse, as I have HALF the grey hair I had before I made these changes! I also make my own BioChar, and add it to my soil, along with what I call garden gold, which is tree leaves. When everyone else throws the away in the fall, I go collect them, and bury them into my soil. As they contain a LOT of nutrients as tree roots go down deep and bring up minerals and put them in the leaves! The first time I added a half a garbage can of leaves to one of my plant holes, those plants grew 30 to 50 % larger than the prior year! So now a put a WHOLE garbage can of leaves where I plant my plants. My tallest tomato plants get 10 feet+!!

    Mark

  32. great rant cool, an interesting bit of info for you friend took plant foliage grass tree leaves, etc placed it in a bin added some water let it rot smell was terrible . had a granadilla plant that was nutrient-starved only grew about a foot in three yrs
gave it about half a cup of this stuff and it shot up to the beams where there was supposed to be a roof and covered it, as well as an. an abundance of flowers and fruit

  33. I agree with you. I got that some years ago, it really was the best. At the moment the sewer water is spilling into the drain and I have the biggest dasheen leaves and vegetables. No chemicals and am on large piece of land. Am excited James, what you are saying it true. Thanks for waking me up.

  34. I have had many gardens, none using chemicals of any kind, since we have a farm with dairy goats, cattle, horses and chickens. Compost goes on our garden regularly. I have never used manure from cats or dogs or people…just can’t get there. People, especially. Medicines, diseases, ugh! Also have a prejudice against manure from meat eaters…not sure why. What we have done has worked well and our local soil is heavy black clay which benefits greatly from the additions of good compost and some sand or lighter soil. Don’t spray for insects since we have had honeybees, but seldom have serious pest problems. I’m very interested in your ideas and opinions, share many of them, but sadly so far have to draw the line at human waste. Water is a soapbox of mine; the ignorance and carelessness of the establishment concerning fresh, clean water is infuriating. In our area developers are razing and ruining the countryside, never have a problem getting hundreds of water meters for their cheap, tacky neighborhoods. But in about March or April the signs go up about needing “cooperation” from people with water conservation, limiting water usage – and it isn’t even summer! I’m a Texan, and natural Texans understand about water scarcity. Unfortunately, the infiltrators fleeing other states ruined by policies and money grubbers don’t appear to have any sensitivities at all. We lost our excellent well of twenty plus years when a huge Del Webb retirement community spread itself over hundreds of acres about 5 miles from us. Beginning of the end. Gotta keep those lawns lush and golf greens green, you know. Hard not to be angry and bitter about losing a way of life dear to us. Ours is a family farm, but will some day go to the developers because of taxes for “developable” land and the influx of city people who move to the country for the “peace and quiet”. And jam the roads, splinter the quiet nights with their huge lights and fireworks and parties, and generally make life intolerable for people who have a different perspective. We are in our eighties, our family members all live on the farm, moving would be highly stressful – and where do you go, anyhow? The biggest enemy Nature and the planet has is – us! Trouble is, most humans don’t want to hear that, they only want a quick and easy fix. That is, as long as it doesn’t involve any acknowledgement of their part in the problem or any real effort on their part to fix it. And I don’t mean electric cars, giant, ugly wind turbines and miles of solar panels. I mean the basic problems of power and greed in too many places coupled with ignorance and lassitude on the part of many “average” people. Thank you for your efforts and the great ideas I’ve gotten from you. We’ll just keep on keeping on while we can. Good luck to all of us…we need it.

    1. Hey Mary, thanks for your comment here!
To clarify, I advocate using waste in SAFE ways. For example, utilizing extremely high aeration/oxygen rich environments teeming with beneficial microbes and fungi to break down “wastes” and safely convert them back into the raw materials for use as fertilizers. As long as we do it in a harmonious way it’s all good. However, injecting huge amounts of waste into pools of water or letting it get into water tables, that’s no good.

  35. Love the truth, it’s really sad that we live in such an ignorant ignoramus idiotic society full of sheep that play follow the leader. The phrase feed the soil and it will feed you is so true but most people are just too stupid to see it or too lazy to implement it. Our farming practices are the most horrifying thing that is out there ,commercial wise that is. I grow as much food as I can for where I live and I take care of the soil and what I get out of it is incredibly sweet and delicious. I’m on a fixed income and I’m trying to gather the money up to get your system so that I can use it next growing season talk at you later

    1. Hey Tim.
LOL, yeah they made a documentary about our society – it’s called Idiocracy!
Sadly, I think it’s a combination of laziness, complacency, brainwashing, denial, and confusion. Pretty huge mess, really.
LOVE hearing that you’re engaging with the Earth and growing your own food. Whether you end up using Revolution Garden or not, keep growing, and keep the Flames alive, Tim. Blessings.

  36. Hey James. James here as well! I am in total agreement with this rant. I have grown my own food using raised beds and hydroponics for years now with great success . I am a Conservative and my belief is that our food has been INTENTIONALLY GMO’d to make us sick and dependent on the tards . “Control the food, control the people”. It is this knowledge that led me to become as self-reliant as possible for the coming SHTF.. combine this with the FOOD SHORTGAGES happening, also by intent, and the anarchy and terrorism we are witnessing daily and anyone with 1/2 a brain should realize where we are likely headed for awhile. Keep up the good posts. ( eventually I will
Probably give your system a try as well:) live in frozen upstate NY so growing seasons are “short”, but trying a heating System in green houses this year( Serenity Farms Prepping on YouTube 🙂

    1. Hey James! Good strong name you have 😉
Well, I agree and you’re in good company. Most people here on Planet Grow Everywhere share all those views… Hmmm, probably because they’re verifiable with publicly available govt documents such as Codex Alimentarius (created by the UN) etc etc etc. Stoked to hear about your greenhouse. Eventually I’ll release a training on season extension and passive solar greenhouses. Keep your eyes peeled!

  37. If pooping in a bucket is too gross for you. You can always install a septic system with leech lines under a garden. This works extremely well and effluent is a great source of all the nutrients You are mentioning. Some people have even been inclined to turn their septic system into a bio-digester Which also creates clean burning natural gas to heat their homes and cook with.

  38. Hi James, this is indeed a long “rant,” for which reading all of it will only make me nod in agreement. I do recall some farmers are using sewage to water their crop, and that goes back many years ago. Although it is (at least on the face of it) a laudable approach, there are inherient problems associated with that practice, which is all sewage is a conglomeration of both domestic and commercial wastes, which means the sewage is contaminated with heavy metals and toxic substances. However, there is a “backyard” practice of composting crap, called “humanor,” which needs to be composted over a two-year period, in order to be disease and parasite free. Biblically, all crap is admonished by God, to be buried–why–so the worms can get to it and finish the composting process.

Here is one trival item for you. A man who never flushes down his toilet paper–he puts all if it into a container that houses worms at the bottom–guess what–the container is never full.

    1. LOL thanks, Keith. I hope to “infect” someone at the EPA with these RADICAL ideas. Spread the word 😉

  39. Hi James, bash here from 🇮🇳 india. Thanks for the rant. James I would like to ask you some question to clarify my doubts. Since I came from a family where my parents are farmers , I have seen how they planted different types of vegetables and our parents used cow dung as a fertilizer which is very good 👍. But the saddest thing is that in order to kill the insects they used lots and lots of pesticides and also now adays I see almost all the farmers in our village used chemical to remove weeds from their field which 3 years back they usually hand pick the weed.seeing all these I use to teach them that these methods of Cultivating would damage their land and in the next few years, their land could no longer be fit for growing veggies🥦🥕🌽. So my question to you is that… Does hydroponics method of cultivating is free of chemical or not because I’m interested in doing farming in a large scale which is chemical free .

    1. Hey Bash, it’s great to hear from you.
Yes, this is the sad reality of commercial agriculture.
In order to maximize production and preserve “quality” of produce in bulk, farmers turn to chemicals.

My method for gardening (Revolution Garden) can be expanded to a larger growing area for market garden production, so the answer is yes.

However, I’d also recommend utilizing methods taught under the umbrella of Permaculture or Japanese Natural Farming. We have a training that covers these called Abundant Foodscape.

It IS 100% possible to grow on a commercial scale without chemicals. It comes down to the overall health of the soil, which is hard work, takes time, but is always worth it in the long run.

Saludos .

  41. God bless you for continuing to research and share with all of us these important “life/health” topics!

  42. That is why I plant and grow plants and vegetable wherever possible to to grow it. I also compost all kitchen waste including dog poop and at times compost it right on the roots of plants. People often asked what I did that it yields more and bigger fruits. I don’t use use pesticides and commercial fertilizer on my plants. I am turning 60 yrs old and dont have any problems with high blood nor heart diseases nor hospitalizes for several decades.

  43. I vividly remember in mid 60’s that every time my father brought me to the farm, we only brought rice , tomatoes and salt. We can catch variety of fish and frogs on foot prints of humans nor carabaos on the rice paddies. Come lunch we ate feastively on our fresh catch and fresh vegies . Comes 70s with the introduction of monsanto and bayer pesticides and poof, fish gone, frogs dwindled and taste of food specially vegetables are not as sweet and savory as it was. we did not follow most farmers are doing, have lesser harvest, yet; we have more staples saved on our barn more stock save for the next season than farmers who have more yields who used pesticides and commercial fertilizers on their farm. Why we have more? Because we don’t have debts to the banks nor nor to loan shark usurpers who lend needed capital for the farm operation.

  44. grow your own food without pesticides and commercial fertilizer and you health is better and you live longer.

  45. I’ve known and have also realized those problems that has man has already create every toxins they scientifically invented. As we all know it’s all the monopoly of money. There’s really nothing that anyone that is not part of the wealthiest people in the world can do anything about it. We just need to do what we can to grow our own food that hopefully is natural enough for us to eat from. Sad though that everything is already polluted with toxins. Our waters that we drink of is already toxic. The many plants that I know of are indigenous or pobably already gone from the face of the earth. But, you said everything that I totally agree of. I’m gonna keep on growing enough natural foods for my own consumption. I’m thankful that you are sharing your knowledge and many techniques about producing food in many different techniques. I too would be more than happy to share my knowledge to family and friends that would help and promote better nutrition. As when I was growing up I had natural food which was all organic since we were poor and mom and dad couldn’t afford store bought foods. Today everyone is enjoying foods that are packaged and foods that are grown synthetically, that’s why too many people are sick and dying because of what they eat and are so dependent to store bought foods. I used to go fishing, go to the jungles and catch food in the rivers and small ponds that are organic, and farm big crops with all physical work, I couldn’t afford a farm tractor back then. But, keep up with your post and hopefully someday many will hear of it.

  46. Makes sense to me even if I use my worm poop as they convert my veggie scraps and more into soil!
But yes, totally ridiculous to throw out the minerals and to drink “Purified” poop water!

    1. Hey Kevin, thanks for adding this important point to the discussion.

The problem here is not humanure. It is chemicals. Luckily, there’s a solution.
If you’re building your own soil using humanure, the assumption is you are also growing your own food (medicine) and progressively getting off medications.

Side note: there’s a great documentary called Super Juice Me where they gave several very sick participants nothing but vegetable juice for 28 days.
One man healed ulcerative colitis and another guy went from 42 medications down to 3 (this was all under the guidance of medical professionals, of course).

Humanure is not the same as biosludge. It is small scale composting, where you have control over the process and know the inputs.

      Plus… Bio-remediation:
The process of building carbon (all composting, including humanure) binds toxic substances to the carbon rendering them inert. This even works on radioactive nucleotides. Over time, any pharmaceuticals will be bound by the carbon and rendered harmless.

      Keep growing, Kevin!
